The Salvation Army
Drop-In Center
270 Franklin St., SE
Warren, Ohio 44483.
The Salvation Army began its ministry in Warren in May, 1886, on Pine Street. To adapt its programs and services to meet the most pressing needs of the community, the Warren Corps moved to its present location at 270 Franklin Street in 1949. Since then, there have been three major renovations, including the addition of a gymnasium.
The Salvation Army, in keeping with its mission statement, offers a full range of programs, activities and services designed to meet the needs of all people.
Consumers are referred to the program by Valley Counseling and community hospitals. Community Busing provides transportation for pickups at individuals homes and at Valley Counseling. Busing is then provided to take the clients home at the conclusion of the program. The center is open on Mondays - Wednesdays - and Fridays for a two hour program. The usual hours are 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Summer month's hours are 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Drop In Center is an informal setting for socialization and to help with basic communication skills. The day starts with announcements, followed by the blessing and then a light snack. Activities include movies, crafts, cards, board games, walks, gym, field trips, and the favorite, a few games of BINGO. Participation with every activity is encouraged but not forced. A carnival and several holiday parties are also given throughout the year and have become an enjoyable part of the program.
